This award-winning modern day Western tells the story of Will James, the caretaker of a private Texas hunting ranch, who is faced with tough decisions for himself and his family after he learns that the property he has tended for more than 30 years will be sold following the death of its owner. 

During its two-year festival run, The Garden and the Wilderness has received numerous awards and screened at more than a dozen film festivals worldwide. In 2013, the film was selected by the Houston Film Commission for its Texas Filmmaker's Showcase program, featuring the year's best short films produced in the state of Texas.

Movie fans in Arkansas can also catch this award-winning western this weekend in Batesville at the 13th annual Ozark Foothills Film Fest. The Garden and the Wilderness screens along with five other short films on Sunday, April 6 at 2:30 PM inside Independence Hall on the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville campus.

After premiering in 2011 at the Rome International Film Festival, The Garden and the Wilderness has screened at over a dozen international film festivals, including including the Dallas Video Fest, the Houston Cinema Arts Festival, and London's Portobello Film Festival. The film has been honored with several awards and nominations, including for best short film at both the Trail Dance Film Festival and Golden Egg Film Festival.

The Garden and the Wilderness will make its San Antonio premiere this weekend as part of a special screening of the Texas Filmmaker's Showcase. The screening takes place at the Santikos Bijou Cinema Bistro at noon on Saturday, October 19th. Tickets for the screening are just $5 and can be purchased at the door.

The Texas Filmmaker's Showcase features a program of some of the year's best short films by Texas filmmakers. In addition to The Garden and the Wilderness, this year's program includes the documentary Vultures of Tibet, which was nominated for a Student Academy Award, and Hellion, which was recently made into a feature film starring Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad.

The Garden and the Wilderness will make its Austin premiere screening tomorrow at the Marchesa Hall and Theatre. The film will appear along with the five other short films that were chosen for the Houston Film Commission's 2013 Texas Filmmaker's Showcase.

Tickets for the 8:00 PM screening are available online through the Austin Film Society website or in person at the Marchesa. All proceeds from the screening will benefit the Austin Film Society's AFS Grant, which supports the work of emerging Texas filmmakers.

The Garden and the Wilderness will make its southern Texas premiere next month at the South Texas Underground Film Festival, which will run in Corpus Christi from October 3-6. The screening will take place on Friday, October 4 at 9:00 PM at the Art Center of Corpus Christi.

All screenings at the South Texas Underground Film Festival are free and open to the public. VIP passes (which include access to the festival's mixers, after parties, and other events) are currently available online.
