Better Archangel Pictures creative director Craig Whitney has accepted an offer to direct Katie Green’s play Lady Lazarus. The play will make its Austin debut on February 8, 2012 as part of the Hyde Park Theatre’s Frontera Fest Short Fringe.
Lady Lazarus examines the life of the poet Sylvia Plath, one of the most original, unapologetic female voices of the 20th century, and her marriage to Ted Hughes, the future poet laureate of England. Their turbulent lives were the fodder that fueled their most prolific poems. Set posthumously, Lady Lazarus examines what may come to pass when these two poets are reunited in the afterlife, when distinctions are blurred between art and life, faith and doubt, love and hate.
Lady Lazarus premiered in February 2011 at the Parker Auditorium in Hanover, Indiana and later had a two week run that August at the Gorilla Tango Theatre in Chicago.
